The indigenous Cypriot grape xynisteri is planted on complex crystal gypsum and limestone soils at an altitude which gives the wine freshness and a salinity. A relatively new winery since 2016, Makarounas have been going from strength to strength. Expect red apple, melon and orange blossom.

Made from xynisteri, the local grape of Cyprus, it's a beautiful switch for anyone who enjoys chablis, sancerre or albarino. Think crunches of apples, zests of lemon and a bracing, salty lick of the ocean too – invigorating and energetic, feelings I definitely aspire to.

Xynisteri is the grape variety, and this is wild-ferment in stainless steel. Juicy, stony, bright and pure with lovely crisp citrus fruit and a hint of apple. Very pure, stony and juicy.
