Great value Aussie classics
Wines included
Bleasdale Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2019
Our Wine Champions tasters marvelled at the class on offer for the money, noting a ‘lovely balance between savoury oak and sweet, pure fruit’ that could pass for Burgundy. ‘Elegant, balanced and delicious.’
Bleasdale Frank Potts Langhorne Creek 2018
This cabernet, merlot, petit verdot and malbec blend is the flagship wine of Bleasdale and offers generous brooding aromas of black fruit, plum, earth and tobacco. The palate is rich and full, with blackberry, vanilla and liquorice. Complex, elegant, delicious Australian red and worth decanting for an hour prior to drinking.
Bulletin Place Australian Chardonnay 2020
Fresh, fruity and vibrant unoaked Australian chardonnay with notes of peach, lime and refreshing lemon zest. Charming, friendly and approachable wine which makes for the perfect all-occasion fridge-door bottle.
On Point Australian Pinot Grigio 2021
Pure, bright and crisp Australian pinot grigio with notes of apple, peach, pear and lime juice. A brilliantly refreshing and charmingly accessible white which punches above its weight and is a super choice for a party wine or just simple refreshment.
Pauletts Polish Hill River Aged Release Clare Valley Riesling 2016
Arguably one of the best-value Clare Valley rieslings out there, this is aged at the winery before release and has developed wonderful depth and complexity as it has matured. The nose is classically styled, with orange peel, lemon curd and wet slate. The palate is dry and saline but with beeswax notes and great length. This Australian Riesling offers extraordinary bang for your buck.
The Society's Australian Shiraz 2019
Bold, generous and full-bodied Australian shiraz, which is bursting with flavours of black cherry, blueberry and blackberries. Made especially for us by multi-award-winning winemaker Paul Hotker of Bleasdale Vineyards.
The Society's Hunter Valley Semillon 2021
A brilliant example of one of Australia's greatest and most unique wine styles, made for us by Brokenwood. Lemon-and-lime driven and intensely refreshing, this is a real Aussie classic.
Three Bunches Australian Shiraz 2019
Seasonal eating doesn't preclude a ray or two of sunshine. The black-cherry and mocha flavours of this fruity and full-bodied shiraz, generous on both nose and palate, will tame those good-for-you greens.
Victory Hotel Australian Chardonnay-Semillon 2021
A great-value classic Australian blend, apple and peach-scented, dry, rounded, unoaked and crisp.
Wirra Wirra McLaren Vale Church Block 2018
An Aussie classic and long-time favourite of Society members, Church Block is a full-bodied blend of cabernet, shiraz and merlot. If you have time, decanting this wine will really bring its blackberry and black-pepper character to life.
Wirra Wirra Scrubby Rise Shiraz 2019
A superb example of affordable and generous Australian shiraz from McLaren Vale with lovely ripe juicy red fruit on the nose, with bramble and violets. The palate is full-bodied but fresh, with a silky texture and spice. Commended at the International Wine Challenge in 2021.
Yalumba Y Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Yalumba are one of the great names of South Australian wine, and this example punches well above its weight. A deliciously generous and juicy cabernet sauvignon which is fresh but full-bodied, with a cassis-laden nose and a red and black-fruited palate.
