BLANKbottle Little William, Ceres 2019

0 star rating 0 Reviews
From the inexhaustible and creative genius who is Pieter Walser (who surely makes more different wines than anyone else on the planet), this is one of his earliest vintages of syrah from the high-altitude, continental Ceres Plateau, an almost otherworldly mountainscape were vines sit in sandstone soil at 750m above sea level. No one can tell the story of Little William better than Pieter himself but in terms of the wine in the bottle, this syrah is showing a delicate pinot-like ethereality at seven years’ old. Wild strawberries and white pepper spice on the nose lead to a palate with sweetly succulent red berry fruit and dried rosemary herbals as well as more white pepper. The tannins are silky, fine and tender, almost weightless, and there is a sour-cherry tang on the finish which moves to a ferrous savouriness after time in glass. No need to decant, this is best poured directly from the bottle to preserve its delicacy and fragrance. We are delighted that Pieter has given The Wine Society access to his final 60 bottles of this vintage.
