Angus Paul 2024 Chenin Blanc mixed Case

From a warmer site in the Bottelary ward of Stellenbosch where a much higher natural pH provides Angus’ fullest, richest and most rounded chenin blanc with a supple mouthfeel and flavours of quince, papaya, and apricot while maintaining the naturally salty finish Angus achieves in his wines. Crisp, mineral and taut chenin blanc from Angus Paul, a rising star in the Western Cape, sourced from a single vineyard on the higher Blaauwklippen Valley on the Helderberg Mountain. A cool site for Stellenbosch with cooling influence from False Bay this is fermented and matured in a combination of concrete and old large oak. The distinct minerality, saline character and focus on the finish give this chenin a real sense of place.

A rising star of South African wine, Angus Paul's 'On a Flight of Furious Fancies' chenin is from a vineyard planted in 1988 in the Polkadraai Hills and matured in old 300-litre oak barrels. The result is an intense and textural chenin with flavours of spiced apricot, candied pineapple and sea spray with an almond-peel finish that lingers long on the palate. This, he says, is always the most maritime of his trio of chenins, and the saltiest in its expression.
