Angus Paul 2024 Chenin Blanc mixed Case

CASE3
0 star rating 0 Reviews
Producing wines from southern Stellenbosch in a custom crush facility at the Karibib farm in the Polkadraai, Angus Paul is very much part of the next generation – or ‘next wave’ – of South African fine wine. Already with a number of vintages under his belt (his first was 2020), he's producing exciting and intellectually challenging chenin blanc (and cinsault) from some of the top terroirs of Stellenbosch. This mixed case brings together his three single-site chenins allowing you to explore, variously, the distinct expressions of the Blaauwklippen Valley, Bottelary and the Polkadraai Hills. All of the labels are designed and drawn by Angus himself, showing there's seemingly no end to his creative talents.

Angus Paul 'Barbary Fictions' Chenin Blanc, Bottelary 2024

From a warmer site in the Bottelary ward of Stellenbosch where a much higher natural pH provides Angus’ fullest, richest and most rounded chenin blanc with a supple mouthfeel and flavours of quince, papaya, and apricot while maintaining the naturally salty finish Angus achieves in his wines. Compelling drinking from one of the Western Cape’s rising stars.

Angus Paul 'Fantamtango' Chenin Blanc. Stellenbosch 2024

Crisp, mineral and taut chenin blanc from Angus Paul, a rising star in the Western Cape, sourced from a single vineyard on the higher Blaauwklippen Valley on the Helderberg Mountain. A cool site for Stellenbosch with cooling influence from False Bay this is fermented and matured in a combination of concrete and old large oak. The distinct minerality, saline character and focus on the finish give this chenin a real sense of place.

Angus Paul 'On a Flight of Furious Fancies' Chenin Blanc, Polkadraai Hills 2024

A rising star of South African wine, Angus Paul's 'On a Flight of Furious Fancies' chenin is from a vineyard planted in 1988 in the Polkadraai Hills and matured in old 300-litre oak barrels. The result is an intense and textural chenin with flavours of spiced apricot, candied pineapple and sea spray with an almond-peel finish that lingers long on the palate. This, he says, is always the most maritime of his trio of chenins, and the saltiest in its expression.
