The best 2019 dry white we tasted by some considerable margin. The wine has lovely tension between the crunchy, mineral fruit and the fresh seam of acidity. Citrusy and very long on the finish.
Domaine de Chevalier, Pessac-Léognan 2014
A Bordeaux blend of 65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot and 5% petit verdot, revealing an attractive savoury nose and displaying crushed-berry fruit on the palate. The tannins will gradually soften as the wine ages and the oak integrates, promising a harmonious and appetising wine for the medium-to-long term.
L'Esprit de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac-Léognan 2016
L'Esprit is the second wine of Domaine de Chevalier, one of the leading lights of Pessac-Léognan in Bordeaux. The planting of young vines in 1986 was the catalyst for the creation of a second red wine at the domaine, and this is a delicious blend of 50% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot and 10% petit verdot from the superlative 2016 vintage. It is smooth and refined with a long, cool finish.
