Bourgueil Pied de la Butte, Jacky Blot 2024

Red Wine from France - Loire
4.000000000 star rating 1 Reviews
We’ve long been fans of the whites from the late Jacky Blot’s Taille Aux Loups, but this achingly fresh and characterful cabernet franc was just too good to ignore. Pied de la Butte comes from 30-year-old vines grown on limestone and clay at the foot of the Butte in Bourgueil and it’s the only wine in the range made entirely in stainless steel, which keeps things bright, fresh and vibrant. This is cab franc in its most joyful form: bursting with red fruit, a flick of spice and a touch of liquorice. Light, lively and packed with character, it’s a no-brainer with summer barbeque- brilliant value from one of the Loire’s legends.

Mid crimson. Gamey nose, with lots of acidity and not quite enough core. Because of the vintage? JancisRobinson.com

The late Jacky Blot was a Loire legend most famous for his Taille Aux Loups Chenin Blanc but this beautiful, bouncy, crowd-friendly Cabernet Franc proves that his talents extended to red and his eponymous winery remains in good hands. Crunchy and fresh with juicy red cherries and a hint of damson, there’s sufficient energy in this wine to power the national grid. Vibrant and fresh with not so much as a splinter of oak, it’s a wine to serve slightly chilled with a slab of Comté cheese.
