Familie Mantler Dry Rosé, Niederösterreich 2025

Rose Wine from Austria - Lower Austria
4.000000000 star rating 16 Reviews
The fresh air of the rolling Austrian hills is captured in this crisp, dry and refreshing pale rosé. Perfect sunshine drinking, with or without access to a swimming pool, this delicate pale-pink has notes of strawberry and raspberry fruit on the nose. The palate is uncomplicated, vibrant and focused, with deliciously mouth-watering zestiness and an apricot twist. Produced by the lovely Mantler family in the little village of Ebersbrunn, around an hour north-west of Vienna, this is made from the zweigelt grape, also known as rotburger. The mouthwatering refreshment on offer here is a delight with a tomato, mozzarella and avocado salad and any other dishes majoring on fresh sun-ripened tomatoes and their tricky-to-match sweet/sharp notes.

Such a simple little wine. So simply delicious. So ridiculously delicious. The Joy Police would have this locked up in a heartbeat. Do you like local strawberries, PYO (especially the ones that surreptitiously go straight into your mouth rather than the punnet-to-be-weighed)? Do you like peaches, the kind you brake the car a little too suddenly for as you skid into a lay-by on the side of a country road because you could almost smell, out of the cornerof your eye, the gold-rose orbs in the boxes on the little solitary farmer’s stand? This is a wine I’d skid into a lay-by for. This is the wine I’d take on a picnic. Good Value. JancisRobinson.com
