Red Wine from Portugal - Dao
Produced from an extraordinary field blend of 24 grape varieties from circa 80-year-old vines, this is a wonderfully expressive and constantly evolving Dão red. Jaen is the largest component, though still only around 7% of the blend, bringing lift and perfume to aromas of liquorice, roses, violets, wild raspberry and baked plum. Fermented with a small proportion of whole clusters and aged in cask, it combines sweetly ripe fruit with savoury complexity, fine peppery spice and delicate earthy notes. The palate is medium bodied, silky and beautifully fresh, with gently grippy tannins and long, juicy acidity. Elegant, soulful and utterly compelling.
