Red Wine from Portugal - Dao
A beautifully perfumed Dão red field blend, built around touriga nacional and jaen, amongst a host of other native varieties. This combines the freshness of a lighter-bodied wine with the depth and intensity of something more serious. The nose bursts with damson, blackcurrant and black cherry alongside sandalwood, cracked pepper and lifted violet perfume. Fermented in concrete and lagares with a small percentage of stems, then aged in large old oak, it has a lovely natural energy and fine tannic grip. The palate is supple and medium bodied, showing cacao, ripe plum and spicy dark fruit, all carried by bright mountain freshness. Incredibly drinkable, yet full of character and detail. A remarkable expression of Dão at the price.
