Château Argadens
Château Argadens is at St-André-du-Bois in the Entre-deux-Mers. The original name of this property, parts of which date back to the 12th and 16th centuries, was La Salle d'Argadens. It was acquired and renamed Château Argadens by the Sichel family in 2002. The Sichels also own Château Angludet in Margaux, as well as a share in Château Palmer, and have produced The Society’s Claret for 20 years.
Benjamin Sichel oversees the winemaking here at the château with the help of Fabien Laborde. Argadens is managed with great care in order to express quite clearly the excellent terroir which the Sichels sought when they made the purchase. The 45-hectare estate sits on one of the highest points of the Gironde region and so is superbly drained and exposed to sunshine and ventilating breezes. The soil is clay and limestone in one single plot.
Production is limited to small quantities of one white wine, a blend of mostly sauvignon for freshness and aroma with a third or so of semillon for body and flavour, and one red wine which is a blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, and a dash of cabernet franc, the respective quantities of each changing from vintage to vintage.
The quality of the wines illustrates the Sichels' desire to make the estate one of the very best of its appellation.
