Château de Meursault
Château de Meursault is a beautiful white stone château with remarkable historic arched medieval cellars beneath that hosts the famous Paulée de Meursault lunch to celebrate the end of harvest every November. More than that though, this is an estate run by Stéphane Follin-Arbelet, former director of well-known négociant Bouchard and he, together with owner Olivier Halley, is looking to put this domaine firmly on the Burgundy map after years of underachievment. 60 hectares of vines across the Côte de Beaune feature sites in Aloxe Corton, Savigny-les-Beaune, Beaune, Pommard, Volnay, Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, with no less than 23 hectares in premier and grand cru vineyards. A state-of-the-art winery employs gravity to avoid the more aggressive pumping of must and juice, and maturation takes place in French oak in those famous cellars, each wine with a different regime depending on its status, and with an emphasis on displaying the characteristics of its terroir. As such, new oak rarely exceeds 40% and lighter wines see less.
