Château Rahoul Rouge, Graves 2017
Perhaps best known for their whites this pretty Graves estate have offered us a great opportunity to purchase a large volume of the 2017 rouge at a great price. Whilst perhaps not the most prized of vintages, we were impressed by the generosity of fruit alongside the savoury supple palate, powdery tannins and freshness. An attractive, honest Bordeaux offering plenty of charm at a great price – just what our members are always wanting and we're only too happy to oblige.

Château Rahoul
Thanks in part to English, Australian, and Danish owners, Château Rahoul already had international recognition but Alain Thiénot, who already owned an eponymous Champagne house and vineyards in Bordeaux, bought Rahoul in 1986 and undertook an ambitious modernisation programme to raise the quality bar, and therefore the profile, even higher.
The acquisition of a shareholding in this Thienot group in 2007 by the renowned and expansive négociant Dourthe led to another step up in the château’s uncompromising approach to quality. Sizeable investments have been made in renovating the vineyard and equipping the cellars, and the wine is now made by the talented Dourthe team, employing state-of-the-art techniques.
Unusual in that it is made predominantly from sémillon, the white wine faithfully reflects the finesse and elegance of Rahoul’s site, a diverse range of terroirs, those amalgamations of aspect, incline, microclimate and soils that are an almost undefinable complex of influences on a vine and the ensuing wine.
The history of Château Rahoul is a long one, dating back to 1646 when a chevalier called Guillaume Rahoul built the attractive small château. 350 years later the management of the Rahoul estate 's Graves white is ranked among the finest of the appellation.
