Chavin Zéro Cabernet Merlot 2023
A clever alcohol-free blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot grown in Bordeaux and aged for six months in French oak barriques. As with the producer’s pinot noir, there is clear varietal typicity, still a rarity in this category. It will not replace fine Bordeaux, but it is a convincing option for those looking to moderate consumption. The nose offers sweet spice, a touch of cedar and ripe red and dark berry fruit, with hints of toasted brioche and strawberry jam. The palate has good body and structure, showing fine cabernet tannin and fresh balancing acidity. A rounded mid palate and gentle oak texture keep the modest residual sugar in check. A promising step forward for alcohol free reds.
