Pauline Passot started her own, eponymous label with the 2016 vintage of this wine from Grille Midi, a specific lieu-dit in the magical cru of Chiroubles. Two years later she took over her parents’ Domaine de la Grosse Pierre and now farms the 9.5 hectares (7.5 of which are in Chiroubles) organically. Her 2023 Grille-Midi carries the generosity of this sunny warm Beaujolais vintage, with a round suppleness, but that is tempered by the cool elevation of Chiroubles – one of the reasons why this cru is so exciting. With succulent and ripe red plum and red cherry flavours, this is charmingly and densely fruited with a balancing vibrant freshness and a precise perfumed finish.
