Cirillo '1850 Ancestor Vine' Barossa Valley Grenache 2018
Red Wine from Australia - South Australia
Possibly the oldest grenache vineyard in the world, planted in the Barossa in 1848 and now owned by the Cirillo family , produces this fragrant cherry, raspberry, dried herb, white pepper and aniseed-scented wine, medium to full-bodied and lifted, subtly spicy, showing more finesse than power with pure fruit. Fine tannins and well-judged oak carry the flavours with clarity, structure and refinement. Dry-grown on deep sandy soils, these ancient vines yield small quantities of fruit that capture the essence of the Barossa while offering a distinctly elegant, almost European style. With its seamless balance and incredible presence without tipping into heaviness, it is a rare and ageworthy expression of one of the world’s most historic vineyards.
