Crystallum Cuvée Cinéma Pinot Noir, Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge 2024
Red Wine from South Africa - Cape South Coast
Peter-Allan Finlayson's single-vineyard Cuvée Cinéma is one of the most sought-after pinots in South Africa. Produced in tiny quantities, this superb pinot comes from a single vineyard high in the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge (used as a film set before vines were planted, hence the name). With a nose of cherry, redcurrant and woodsmoke, the palate is taut and mineral with finely woven yet firm tannins. There is real presence and a quiet power on the finish. This is already delicious but is very young and the best is yet to come.Â

Crystallum Wines
A new producer, established in 2006, with 2007 the first vintage release. The winemaker comes from good local stock, however: Peter-Allan Finlayson is the son of Peter Finlayson of Bouchard Finlayson and appears to be something of a chip off the old block when it comes to handling chardonnay and pinot noir.
The vineyards are farmed sustainably, in the charmingly named Crystal Kloof (valley), and the eco-friendly winery is made from straw bales, covered with plaster made from recycled paper and clay.
