Domaine Gonon, Mâcon La Roche Vineuse 2023
White Wine from France - Burgundy
Ripe and concentrated wine from the lovely 2023 vintage. It has aromas of apples and melons and a fresh and clean finish. Tank fermented and kept on its yeast lees for around nine months to contribute some richness to the mid-palate. Showing excellent complexity and value, this strikes a very pleasing balance between freshness and breadth.

Domaine Gonon
Jean-François Gonon took over from his father in 1991 and The Wine Society started buying in 1995. There are 14ha of vines, 8ha of Mâcon and 6 of Pouilly-Fuissé. This domaine produces fresh Mâcon with an attractive aroma and flavour of baked apples that never fails to hit the spot. Located in the Vergisson commune, in the southern end of the Mâconnais, the vines are at the foot of the famous limestone escarpment, Roche de Solutré. It is cool here, and the vine yields are restricted to help the grapes to ripen fully.
Winemaker Jean-François Gonon makes the most of his fruit by handling it very carefully, having invested in a modern winery. Possibly one of the most expensive items of equipment is his pneumatic press, which coaxes out the juice from the skins in the most delicate way possible. He has also invested in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks for fermenting the Mâcon La Roche Vineuse that we buy, which is unoaked. It is kept on the lees until early summer then bottled with Diam corks for us. He part-ferments his Pouilly-Fuissé in barrels.
