Nuevo Viejo Rioja
Wines included
El Pacto Ojo Gallo, Rioja 2023
From a vineyard planted in 1957 to a mix of red and white grapes – garnacha, tempranillo, viura, malvasia – this pale red wine, almost pink, is fine, delicate and gentle with lovely appealing floral fruit and no oak influence. This is a style that contrasts with today's deeper, fuller Riojas.
La Dula Garnachas de Altura Sierra de Toloño Rioja 2023
A stunning. high-altitude garnacha. Vibrant and floral with a nose that pops with red cherry, raspberry and violet, accented with wild herbs. The palate is electric with high acidity and tart pomegranate mixed with silky tannins and a stony finish. Super fresh now, but built for the long haul.
Eguiluz Las Preferidas, Rioja 2023
The talented young Israel Eguiluz makes a fine, succulent style of Rioja with his 'Las Preferidas', which is made using part carbonic maceration to seek out the primary aromatics of his Abalos and Labastida fruit. The blend is mostly tempranillo with a touch of calagrano, garnacha and viura which come from three high-altitude plots from his family’s vineyards. He co-ferments together and ages for a short time in oak resulting in a fresh raspberry coulis and brambly fruit-forward style, with mouth-coating tannins. Fine, elegant and accessible with oak playing a secondary role.
Nunca Jamás Javier San Pedro Rioja 2023
A robust, powerful and concentrated fruit-driven Rioja, from a selection of innovator Javier San Pedro's best fruit from vineyards between Laguardia and the Sierra Cantabria. This is a more modern take on the classic style with well-integrated oak and generous, ripe plum fruit, dark chocolate and a smoky complexity from nine-months ageing in French oak. Mostly tempranillo with a sprinkling of graciano.
Pujanza Valdepoleo, Rioja 2022
From a single 17-hectare vineyard planted in 1973 in the high altitude Laguardia region, a vibrant and deep expression of tempranillo with style, structure and detail. Concentrated forest fruit, black olive tapenade and balsamic notes are balanced with fine tannin, lifted acidity and a touch of exotic spice from the 12 months in barrel.
Palacios Remondo La Montesa Crianza, Rioja 2021
A succulent and vibrant garnacha-led Rioja from the high foothills of Mount Yerga in Rioja Oriental. Álvaro Palacios, originally from Rioja, is renowned for his transformational role in Priorat and today produces some of Spain’s most celebrated wines across several regions. At his family estate, Bodegas Palacios Remondo, he has been instrumental in reviving garnacha in this warm Mediterranean corner of Rioja. The result is a beautifully expressive wine showing wild strawberry fruit, hints of Mediterranean herbs, bright acidity and impressive finesse.
