Domaine Du Cayron

This is a traditional family domaine in Gigondas that has been in existence since 1840. It now covers 16 hectares, largely planted with grenache noir (70%) with cinsault, syrah and mourvédre in support, scattered in plots across Gigondas.

For over 30 years the domaine had been run by Michel Faraud until he handed over to his three daughters, Delphine, Sandrine and Rosaline. Sandrine and Rosaline take care of the winemaking while Delphine manages the business affairs of the domaine.

The vines average 40 years of age and sit below the craggy peaks of the famous Dentelles de Montmirail, putting down roots in cretaceous marl overlying a limestone base, all well situated mid-slope.

Yields are tiny, much lower than the appellation rules allow, and all hand harvested before finding their way into the press. Fermentation and maturation take place in traditional, large oak foudres and none of the finished wines are fined and filtered.
