Red Wine from Portugal - Douro Valley
The Douro is surely one of the most exciting modern-classic wine regions in Europe for table wines, and this is an exceptional example of the quality that can be produced, captures the concentration of fruit and remarkable freshness that the stunning Douro Valley can impart to its wines. The nose is initially Bordeaux-adjacent, with cedar, slate, blackcurrant and cigar. With air it unveils a softness and an earthiness with ever-so-delicate notes of tobacco, nutmeg and delicious baked plums. The palate is full with notable intensity of flavour and structure. The tannins are grippy and firm in its youth but the acidity is fresh and perfectly balanced. There is a more in the way of red fruit on the palate, with the smooth cedar character complementing beautifully. The finish shows silky pure blackberries, sweet smoke and a hint of vanilla pod. Drink from 2025 to 2037.

Rita Marques has quietly, thoughtfully, been making wine in the Douro Valley for years now. Then one of those wonderful wine world exchanges of culture and winemaking experience resulted in a friendship resulted in a friendship and collaboration with Marc Kent, long-term cellarmaster and director of Boekenhoutskloof in South Africa.
Different people from different continents and winemaking experiences, but a meeting of minds, they have now taken the leap of investing in an old Quinta and tiny winery in the beautiful Douro, putting their own collective stamp on the resulting wines.
