La Calcinara Mun Rosato 2023

Rose Wine from Italy - Marche
4.000000000 star rating 3 Reviews
Hugely characterful rosato from the Marche region, made from montepulciano, this is bursting with ripe red plums, red cherries, and blood orange. There is real depth of flavour and lots of complexity and interest, with a wild rosemary note and a salty minerality on the finish. Grown on third-generation family estate by the talented Berluti siblings, Eleonora and Paolo, this is a brilliant and versatile food wine, textural and weighty at the same time as being vividly fresh. Just delicious.

I rarely love rosé from anywhere other than Provence, so this fabulous Italian rosato, from a third generation family estate in Marche, central Italy, stopped me in my tracks. The nose entices with berries, cherries, blood orange and rose petals, leading into a festival of red fruit dancing around a spear of firm Italian acidity. A charming, utterly delicious summer sipper, this is one hell of a find, courtesy of acting Italy buyer Victoria Mason MW.

If you have a rosé sceptic in your life, this is the wine to convert them. A world away from the forgettable pub plonk ruining rosé, this is a wine of real depth, great texture and weight from the underappreciated region of Le Marche in Italy. Made from one hundred per cent montepulciano, its restrained nose belies a wave of fresh ripe cherries, orange blossom, and an English rose garden in bloom. The acidity in the fruit supports the weight and richness immaculately. Tasted blind, I almost thought this was a light red. I think this would be best paired with a steaming bowl of prawn linguine with lashings of fresh tomato, olive oil, garlic and zests of Amalfi lemon
