LS Merchants 'Butter Barrels' Chardonnay 2025
LS Merchants is a high-quality family winery that has built a well-earned reputation in Western Australia for crafting wines that are unashamedly delicious, vibrant and full of character and Butter Barrels is a perfect example. This is predominantly Margaret River chardonnay with the rest from Blackwood Valley and it’s a wine that shows just how delicious oak-aged chardonnay can be when handled with flair. This is full-bodied, creamy and generous but with a wonderful line of freshness and energy that keeps it beautifully balanced. Entirely aged in French oak barriques, with full malolactic fermentation, it offers a gorgeously expressive nose of ripe yellow peach, nectarine and vanilla pod, wrapped in a rich, bread and butter aroma that’s seriously hard to resist. The palate is plush, juicy and indulgent, with fat peachy fruit and a silky texture. There’s a zing of citrusy lift and mineral freshness that gives the wine great definition. For lovers of rich, classically styled chardonnay, this has all that generosity but without tipping over into heaviness or being blousy. Generous, golden and outrageously tasty, this is pure pleasure in a glass. Serve it chilled and enjoy the ride.
