Red Wine from Spain - Valencia & Levante
A fresh depiction of bobal from a warm region in Southern Spain, renowned winemaker Toni Mustiguillo crafts an exceptional red made from bobal with a touch of garnacha that strikes a balance of power and robustness but also easy-drinking, fresh elegance. Showing fleshy, plummy fruit with fine chalky tannins, the 2024 is his freshest yet, with some subtle herbaceous notes and a spicy finish. This is a Mediterranean gem. At Bodega Mustiguillo, care for the vineyard almost seems to come before everything else. The family has farmed organically since 2007 and has now completed its transition to biodynamics, with all estate wines from the 2025 vintage onwards carrying the certification. They dry-farm the vineyards in a region where water is scarce, build soil fertility using compost made from the manure of their own flock of 300 sheep, and work alongside nature rather than against it. The vineyards sit amongst Mediterranean forest, olive and almond trees, old holm oaks and beehives managed by local beekeepers, creating a landscape buzzing with life. In the cellar, intervention is kept to a minimum, with spontaneous yeasts and a focus on letting the character of the fruit and place shine through.
