Minimalist Connect the Dots Syrah, Western Cape 2024

0 star rating 0 Reviews
From the hugely exciting syrah supremo Sam Lambson comes this syrah sourced from three regions (and four sites) which are indicated by the dots on the label; while there is a bigger Agulhas component this vintage – 48% Agulhas, with 27% Elgin and 25% Stellenbosch (predominantly from Banghoek with some Polkadraai Hills) – Sam notes that ‘we make sure we keep the dots in the same place.’ Former assistant winemaker to Chris Alheit, Chris jokingly calls Sam’s Connect the Dots, his ‘Syrah-tology,’ referencing his own Cartology chenin, as it brings together the different vineyards from which he sources. Sam loves working with whole bunches and this vintage is around 28% whole-bunch fermented giving an instantaneously expressive aromatic, which pops with dried rosemary, fennel and white pepper perfume. After the leaner 2023, the 2024 has gorgeous concentration of black and red berry fruit, and a long, salty finish. Released a year later (than Stars in the Dark and No Place like Home) and ready to drink from the get-go, this is a great introduction to Minimalist and ideal for mid-to-early drinking.
