The 2018 Quintet is a beautifully poised expression of a warmer, very high-quality Yarra Valley vintage, with noticeably more weight and density to the fruit but without being removed from the hallmark house style of finesse and detail. There’s an immediacy to the fruit profile, with plum, blackcurrant and mulberry wrapped in notes of bay leaf, crushed graphite and a touch of exotic spice on the nose. While more fruit-forward than 2017, it maintains the hallmark elegance of Mount Mary through superbly judged tannins and a seamless line of acidity. The texture is sleek and composed, with a supple mid-palate that gives the wine a sense of harmony and approachability even in its youth. Despite its accessibility, this vintage is structured and balanced for the long haul. A compelling release that highlights the estate’s ability to craft wines of depth and character without ever sacrificing refinement. Drink this year to 2038. 13%
