Mount Mary is a producer which carries an air of mystery and legend about it. The reputation is outstanding but the Middleton families modesty and lack of marketing spend has forced the wines to speak for themselves. Being able to offer this chardonnay is a real treat, not only because the wine is considered amongst the small handful of the country's very best examples of the grape but the 2018 vintage was of such a high quality across almost all of Australian wine. Aromas of white peach, nectarine and citrus peel are layered with hazelnut, struck flint and subtle oak spice. The palate is precise but with real generosity, balancing concentration with elegance. There is a lovely creaminess to the texture, yet freshness and mineral drive keep everything in perfect proportion. A white that will benefit from decanting, this is still youthful, with years of development ahead but which is a total joy to drink.
