Red Wine from Portugal - Bairrada
Poeirinho is Niepoort’s tribute to Bairrada and to baga, the region’s defining grape. “Poeirinho” is an old local word for baga, once commonly used by growers in the region. The wine captures the grape’s distinctive personality, offering lifted aromas of sour cherry, cranberry and dried rose with subtle earthy and savoury notes. On the palate it is taut and structured, with bright acidity and firm, finely grained tannins giving the wine real presence and longevity, while the actual body of the wine is lifted and agile. Baga can sometimes be rustic, but in skilled hands it produces wines of remarkable elegance and depth. In this respect the style often draws comparisons with Barolo, sharing a similar combination of aromatic lift, structural tannin and the capacity to evolve beautifully with time in the cellar.
