Pujanza, Pujanza Rioja 2004

0 star rating 0 Reviews
2004 was a fantastic year in Rioja, with ideal, cooler growing conditions shaped by northerly winds. From the visionary, site-obsessed Carlos San Pedro of Bodegas Pujanza, who places greater emphasis on his vineyards than on oak, though it has spent 12 months in French barrel, it’s still a fruit first wine, with all the fruit coming from high-altitude sites in and around Laguardia in Rioja Alavesa. Now fully mature, this Rioja is coming into its own, showing impressive complexity and earthy, tertiary character: sanguine notes, forest floor, and dried earth layered with dried red fruit, alongside hints of saddle, cedar, and liquorice spice. There is still structure, with firm tannins and impressive length - remarkable value for a 26-year-old wine.
