The Quinta da Pedra Alta Pedra a Pedra Tinto 2022 is a fantastic introduction to the new wave of fresher, more elegant Douro reds, proving that this famous region isn’t just about fortified wines. A blend of touriga nacional, touriga franca, sousão, and tinta barroca, this is structured yet utterly approachable, bursting with vibrant fruit and a lovely balance of ripeness and freshness. 2022 was a hot, dry vintage, with above-average temperatures and low yields driving concentration here, but the higher-altitude vineyards of Quinta da Pedra Alta meant slower ripening, resulting in a wine with both intensity and poise. Fragrant with a wonderful mix of ripe, plump cherries, blueberries, and mulberries, alongside lifted floral aromatics and a touch of exotic spice. The palate is succulent, with juicy, red-fruit charm supported by fine tannins and a streak of refreshing acidity to keep everything beautifully poised. A hint of wild herbs, black pepper, and a subtle savoury depth add to the complexity, making this a truly satisfying sip.
