Quinta da Pedra Alta is an excellent small producer in the stunningly beautiful Douro Valley of Portugal. Their Reserva red is a plush, full and finessed fine wine which captures the combination of rich Douro fruit and the freshness which winemaker João Pires preserves in all of his wines. This is a blend of local grapes 67% touriga nacional, 27% touriga franca, 5% tinta roriz and 1% tinta barroca aged in oak. The nose has a lovely mix of deep dark fruit aromas and lovely savoury hints of slate, forest floor as well as a delicate hint of sweet tobacco and juicy wild raspberry. The palate is silky and generous, with balanced tannins and mouthwatering freshness. Deep dark plum, cassis and blueberry notes combine with more sweet spices and a deliciously smooth texture.
