Rall Ava Chenin Blanc, Swartland 2024
White Wine from South Africa - Coastal Region
From two Swartland vineyards on schist, this is an elegant, subtle, quietly seductive chenin blanc, with aromas of spring blossom, stone fruit and almond nougat. Immediately energetic on the palate, it has brilliant, bracing acidity and, in spite of its energy, is unassuming, unshowy and very detailed. There is a luminescent citrus-driven core, lemon rind and sea spray, with some phenolic grip on the finish. The more air this receives, the more the aromatic reveals dry earth and fynbos, while the palate builds in generosity and breadth, starting to show ripe apple and yellow plum. There is a delicate tension here and a quiet assurance. Give this time and air.
