Deeply coloured, juicy merlot from a family-owned Bordeaux property on the border of Montagne and Lussac Saint-Emilion with soft ripe tannins and hints of black cherry and spice.
Château Virevalois, Bordeaux 2023
The follow-on vintage to the hugely popular 2022, this is slightly lighter and more fruit-forward as is the style with 2023 but no less appealing. Plum, strawberry and dark cherry on the nose with a lightly structured, juicy palate with plenty of charm. A great-value, anyday claret that's also available in bag in box.
Château Monconseil Gazin, Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux 2022
A scented, harmoniously balanced claret made by the highly regarded Jean-Michel Baudet. Two-thirds merlot with the balance cabernet sauvignon and a splash of malbec for added depth. Superb-value Blaye. As recipients of our 2024 Climate & Nature fund, the château wants to build on its already impressive sustainability credentials by planting nearly 1,000m of new hedgerows around their vineyards. Made up of native shrubs the hedges will create wildlife habitats and absorb carbon from the atmosphere.
