South by South West Margaret River Chardonnay 2024
White Wine from Australia - Western Australia
Sourced from two Yallingup vineyards, one right by the ocean and the other planted to old gin gin clone chardonnay vines, this is a beautifully refined taste of Margaret River. The nose is pristine and focused, layering citrus peel, nougat and gentle sweet spice with a delicate sea spray lift. Hand harvested and whole-bunch pressed to barrel with 30% new oak. The oak sits seamlessly within the fruit. The palate has zesty lemon acidity that drives the wine forward while a savoury breadth and fine phenolic grip give shape and persistence. Oyster-shell freshness and subtle nutty complexity linger on a long, detailed finish. Elegant yet characterful, this is a chardonnay that rewards attention rather than demands it, and it shines brightest alongside simply cooked seafood or roast chicken. Our Climate and Nature Programme is helping the two-woman powerhouse behind South by South West, Liv and Mij, complete what Liv calls one of their ‘dream or unicorn type projects’ – building a custom-made mobile chicken trailer to introduce chickens to their vineyards to gobble up pests like weevils and enable them to reduce the usage of pesticides.
