The case for Pouilly-Fuissé
Wines included
Château de Beauregard, Pouilly-Fuissé Vers Pouilly 2019
Vers Pouilly (‘towards Pouilly)` lies just on the Fuissé side of the border between the two communes. This is very particular terroir, also found in Le Pouilly, and at neighbouring Château du Clos, called marnes: an exceptional clay soil made up of laminated layers that impart power and freshness in equal measure. This has a beautiful tension between richness and freshness. Ideally balanced.
Château de Beauregard, Pouilly-Fuissé Maréchaude 2015
The excellent Maréchaude is a south-facing vineyard in the high, cool village of Vergisson. In keeping with the style of the 2015 vintage, this is a ripe and full-flavoured wine, yet it has lovely balancing freshness due to the altitude of the vineyard.
Château des Rontets, Pouilly-Fuissé Clos Varambon 2017
Elegant Pouilly-Fuissé from 15 to 50-year-old vines, aged in foudres and pièces (different sized oak barrels), with a hint of richness to the palate.
Château du Clos, Pouilly-Fuissé Hommage a Léonard Chandon 2017
From the oldest vines of the Clos – the most ancient planted in 1936, others in the 1950s – this is a particularly sumptuous, ripe, concentrated white Burgundy of great concentration with an opulent honeyed palate.
Domaine Cordier, Pouilly-Fuissé Vers Cras 2016
From a vineyard on a limestone plateau, this white Burgundy has a lovely freshness derived from the soil. It's a linear wine with good length and underneath the ripe fruit there is a mineral core lending lift and energy. This wine is a Museum Release: thanks to our member-owned co-operative model, our buyers are able to buy wines to mature in the perfect conditions of our temperature-controlled cellars and release them when they are ready to enjoy.
Jacques Saumaize, Pouilly-Fuissé Sur La Roche 2018
This is made from a high-altitude vineyard on the back of the Roche de Vergisson. A cool spot in a warm year is a winning combination. Barrel-fermented and matured white Burgundy which is ripe yet fresh.
