The case for Pouilly-Fuissé

Case of 6
5.000000000 star rating 1 Reviews
Situated in the warm southernmost point of the Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé rises to a crescendo of quality and is the top appellation of the region. These wines are rich and powerful but nevertheless are not top heavy due to a certain supporting structure derived from altitude, exposition or soil type.Vergisson is the highest commune of all and both Sur La Roche and Maréchaude have a welcome freshness due to the altitude. Château des Rontets is very fine flavoured due to its northerly aspect. The marnes soil shared by Vers Pouilly and Château du Clos seems to unite the power of Fuissé with the elegance of Pouilly in a most satisfying way. Vers Cras is situated on a limestone plateau where the soil tempers a ripe vintage with mineral freshness.A six-bottle case containing one bottle of each of the following:Château de Beauregard, Pouilly-Fuissé Maréchaude 2015Domaine Cordier, Pouilly-Fuissé Vers Cras 2016Château du Clos, Pouilly-Fuissé Hommage a Léonard Chandon 2017Château des Rontets, Pouilly-Fuissé Clos Varambon 2017Jacques Saumaize, Pouilly-Fuissé Sur La Roche 2018Château de Beauregard, Pouilly-Fuissé Vers Pouilly 2019

Château de Beauregard, Pouilly-Fuissé Vers Pouilly 2019

Vers Pouilly (‘towards Pouilly)` lies just on the Fuissé side of the border between the two communes. This is very particular terroir, also found in Le Pouilly, and at neighbouring Château du Clos, called marnes: an exceptional clay soil made up of laminated layers that impart power and freshness in equal measure. This has a beautiful tension between richness and freshness. Ideally balanced.

Château de Beauregard, Pouilly-Fuissé Maréchaude 2015

The excellent Maréchaude is a south-facing vineyard in the high, cool village of Vergisson. In keeping with the style of the 2015 vintage, this is a ripe and full-flavoured wine, yet it has lovely balancing freshness due to the altitude of the vineyard.

From the oldest vines of the Clos – the most ancient planted in 1936, others in the 1950s – this is a particularly sumptuous, ripe, concentrated white Burgundy of great concentration with an opulent honeyed palate.
