The Society's Exhibition Valdeorras Godello 2024

White Wine from Spain - Galicia & Bierzo
4.000000000 star rating 17 Reviews
Sourced from the most inland and eastern of Galicia’s DOs, our new Exhibition bottling is made by renowned Contino winemaker Jorge Navascués who heads up the winemaking at Virgen de Galir in Valdeorras. This exclusive blend from grapes grown on slate soils results in a fresh, layered and complex white, with notes of lemons, white peach, stony minerality and godello’s characteristic weighty, creamy texture, balanced by precise freshness. Drink it with a dish of hake - a hugely popular fish in Spain - or other white fish with a clam, garlic, parsley and white wine sauce.

The Society’s Spanish buyer, Harriet Kininmonth, poses the question ‘could this be Spain’s answer to white Burgundy?’. Perhaps it could, for this beautiful wine, from inland Galicia, entices with the freshness of a mountain stream on slate, with plump peaches and cream balanced by vibrant lemon, rounded off with a salty finish. A gastronomic feast in itself, it’s the perfect pair for tarragon roasted chicken.
