The Society's Picpoul de Pinet 2021

White Wine from France - Languedoc
4.285714000 star rating 7 Reviews
Picpoul de Pinet from the Languedoc produces a clean, full-flavoured white and is a perfect partner for seafood, among other dishes. It also makes the perfect white to drink on its own, maybe with a few olives or half a dozen oysters.

Domaine La Condamine L'Eveque

Bascou is an important name in the village of Nézignan and The Wine Society first began working with the estate in 1988. At the time it was run by Marie-Claude Bascou while her husband spent most of his time on the road consulting and teaching oenology.

Today, their son Guilhem makes the wine having learned his craft from his parents and from a useful stint in South Africa. The Bascous plant a great many grape varieties but they are best known for their reds, and in particular syrah. Altogether the domaine encompasses 65 hectares and the style is one of fullness and generosity without pretension.

The Sunday Times

Tangy, saline and very dry, a glass of picpoul — which translates as “lip stinger” — makes for a happy marriage with oysters, shellfish or even anchovies tossed in a salad.
