This unique blend especially created for The Wine Society is 80% grillo, which gives a lovely rich apricot and peach-fruit flavour to this crisp Sicilian white, with 20% carricante, which lifts the freshness while adding an elegant mineral note to the perfume. The dynamic Vesco family took over Cantine Rallo 10 years ago and has updated and revitalized practices here, investing heavily in cutting-edge technology in the cellars.
Cantine Rallo have vineyards in three main sites: hilly Alcamo not far from Palermo (where nero d’Avola is grown), seaside Marsala, and the almost African island of Pantelleria.
The grapes tend to be picked earlier than those of many of their neighbours and this produces their customary bright, fresh style.
