Alain virtually single-handedly put the wines of Madiran on the world wine map. His two properties, Châteaux Montus and Bouscassé, are considered bywords for quality and authenticity. With very different terroirs the wines have distinct characters – the Montus vines are planted predominantly on clay soils, which give the wines density and power, while Bouscassé has limestone soils, lending the wines perfume and minerality.

The 2025 vintage marks a significant evolution in the makeup of the wines’ blends, reflecting Brumont’s desire to express the individuality of the different terroirs ever more precisely. Tannat, which embodies the unique character of the vineyards, naturally remains the backbone of the wines, bringing depth, structure, and tremendous ageing potential. However, the decision to increase the proportion of cabernet franc in the 2025 reds complements this structure by adding greater finesse, aromatic brilliance, and elegance to the tannins, whilst preserving the historic identity of the different cuvées.

The reds have deep colour, intensity of flavour and remarkable fruit density. They will be enjoyable in their youth for their pure dark-fruit character and energy, but will develop complexity of flavour in bottle for many years.

And 2025 is also a fine vintage for Madiran’s white wine, Pacherenc du Vic Bilh. Here we offer Château Montus’ delicious 100% petit corbu which is currently ageing in 100% new oak barrels, and which reveals notes of baked apples and quince, with a fresh, saline edge.
