For the third year in a row, Lukas van Loggerenberg has taken on the Tierhoek collaboration red blend, in a vintage, he says, ‘the likes of which I’ve never seen before in my life.’ A cool growing season saw extended hang time in the vineyards providing grapes of impeccable concentration and complexity, whist retaining unprecedentedly low pHs giving wines of great energy and ageworthiness. This blend of grenache, syrah and mourvèdre is deeply coloured with aromas and flavours of damsons, black olives, iron and wild plums with great tension, poise and incredible length. This is a wine that will take a number of years to be truly within its drinking window, so we recommend leaving for a minimum of five years before opening. Drink from 2029 to 2040. 14%
