Fine Wine Team Ultimate Christmas Case
Wines included
Château Bélair Monange, Saint-Emilion 2016
Among on one of the best vintages we have tasted from the Moueix family's top Saint-Emilion property, and is now in a really good place and ready to go. A wine of real gravitas on the nose with plenty of spice and bright, pure red-berry fruit, with a mineral-laden palate and great poise. A true Saint-Emilion with bitter redcurrant and tactile, fine tannins.
Cornas Les Vieille Fontaines, Domaine Voge 2015
This cuvée of old vines is only made in top vintages. The 2015 had immense power and presence to begin, with flavours of tapenade and blackberry that are still present and a structure that, while time in bottle has softened the edges, still has a long future ahead.
Domaine Bruno Clair, Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Clos du Fonteny 2017
Soft and velvet-textured in 2017, benefitting from an early malolactic fermentation. From well-sited vines next to the grand cru Ruchottes Chambertin (quite high up the slope and adjoining the Combe de Lavaux), this is a wine with both mineral and floral characteristics, combined with red and black fruit.
La Rioja Alta 890 Gran Reserva, Rioja 2010
One of the finest traditionally-framed Riojas, gran reserva gets no better than this. A wine of great refinement, depth and complexity with flavours that evolve continuously in the glass. Plums, red fruit and tobacco combine to make this intriguing yet completely delicious.
Riesling Clos Sainte Hune, Trimbach 2019
Clos Sainte Hune is a legendary wine and regarded as one of the greatest dry white wines in France. From the Grand Cru Rosacker in Hunawihr, this vineyard is a mere 1.67 hectares and has belonged to the Trimbach family for over 200 years. The 2019 vintage is sensational and has the focus and breadth that truly exceptional wines can bring.
Half bottle of Château d'Yquem, Sauternes 1988
The first vintage of the first trilogy of exceptional years at d'Yquem (there has only been one other trilogy, 2021, 2022, 2023), and often said to be the best of 1988, 1989 and 1990. A vintage characterised by heavy botrytis, resulting in six tries through the vineyard, the resulting wine is a deep amber hue with a hedonistic nose of marmalade, quince, and candied pear. The palate showcases the intensity of the vintage perfectly, with incredible acidity and freshness and a long, mouth-watering finish. This has been 'entering' its drinking window for the last decade, and is now in its prime, firing on all cylinders.
