Domaine de Montvac
Domaine de Montvac has long been handed down from mother to daughter and former ballerina Cécile Dusserre and her daughter Amélie are the fifth and sixth generation of her family to farm here. Cécile began working on the estate in 1991 and it has been on her watch that organic certification was won in 2014.
There are 50-hectares of vineyards in three appellations, Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Côtes-du-Rhône, with a plethora of grape varieties grown – grenache noir, syrah, mourvèdre, counoise, carignan, grenache gris, clairette rose, cinsault, roussanne, and bourboulenc all find their way into Cécile’s wines.
The harvesting and winemaking are done with a light touch, destemming and allowing native yeasts to do their work in fermentation. Intervention in the winery is kept to a minimum. Once fermented the wines mature in cool underground cellars with red wines in concrete vats and the whites in large demi-muid barrels.
These are much-lauded wines of poise and elegance befitting an ex-ballerina, while never sacrificing concentration and depth of flavour.
