Vanguardist 'Blewitt' McLaren Vale Grenache Syrah 2023

Winemaker Michael J. Corbett is a true perfectionist who achieves wines with excellent lift and finesse, and Botanic is a new range which sits just below his highly sought after 'V' collection. Beautifully complete, this elegant example is made using a blend of 55% grenache and 45% syrah - the combination of the two varieties complementing each other perfectly. A wonderfully polished wine, pure blue fruit leads on the nose with hints of slate, rose and sweet sun-dried tomato. As it unfurls, an earthy undertone builds, adding to the plushness and complexity, with sleek, fine-grained and grippy tannins integrating nicely with its slatey minerality. The acidity is juicy and focused with real fruit purity, while the mid-palate sees a core of dark purple and blue fruits, encased in red cherry. Finishing with red fruits, floral characters, sweet spices and a lick of dried herbs, the gentle touch of Corbett’s winemaking here is truly fantastic.
