Vanguardist ‘Oeno’ McLaren Vale Grenache 2023

Red Wine from Australia - South Australia
3.200000000 star rating 5 Reviews
Fastidious and perfectionist winemaker Michael J. Corbett achieves wonderful elegance, lift and finesse in his wines. Oeno grenache, from his new Botanic range, sits just below the highly sought-after 'V' range. Particularly elegant, light and ethereal , it shone in our 2025 Wine Champions tastings for its bright redcurrant, wild strawberry and raspberry aromas with hints of flowers, earth and dried herbs. With air, aromatic spices build in the background, with ground ginger, garam masala and nutmeg subtly adding to the complexity. The palate is light, fine and elegant with grippy tannins and crisp acidity, more suited to pinot noir lovers than classic full-bodied Aussie red devotees. More red fruit leads on the palate, with a charming, juicy attack, before becoming more restrained, as florals open up and pepper brings lift and a savoury edge. The finish is long and fine. With our Climate and Nature Programme's support, Michael is currently creating a ‘shelterbelt’, planting 1.1km of native vegetation to support wildlife movement, while also providing a filter for chemical spray drift and disease transfer from neighbouring farms. Michael sees his role as a steward of the land and this work as creating a living legacy: ‘this project represents more than just planting trees – it's a long-term investment in the ecological health and sustainability of our vineyard and region.’
