Verduno is a small town in the north of Italy where this almost extinct grape, pelaverga, thrives. A pink skinned grape, this produces a very pale red wine but with wonderful pepper, violet and wild-strawberry character. Perfect slightly chilled with antipasti or a bowl of penne alla vodka.
