Yalumba 'The Caley' Coonawarra & Barossa Cabernet Shiraz 2012
Red Wine from Australia - South Australia
A landmark wine from a global fine wine name, Yalumba’s The Caley is the ultimate expression of one of Australia’s most iconic family-owned wineries, their flagship red. This 2012 release is a significant milestone: a rare chance to taste the inaugural vintage with over a decade of bottle age. A blend of cabernet sauvignon from the Ming D block of the Coonawarra estate and shiraz from ancient Barossa vines, including the 1901 planted Burgemeister 'Linke Block', this wine honours both regional pedigree and Yalumba’s long-standing pursuit of excellence. The wine pours deep red with purple hues, and the nose is lifted by fresh floral and vibrant aromatics. Blackcurrant, red plum and savoury herbs are layered with green spice, cedar and pipe tobacco. On the palate, it’s seamless, stylish and refined, with a silken drive that balances fleshy depth against a strong, structured core. Remarkably precise and even, It is drinking beautifully now while being built for long-term cellaring, with its peak still years away. Aged for 22 months in French oak and held back for three years before release, it offers complexity and poise: red and blackcurrants layered with savoury herbs, cedar, pipe tobacco and a fine mineral line. The palate is structured yet graceful, with silky texture and impressive length. A benchmark of Australian winemaking.
