Zephyr Organic Marlborough Gewürztraminer 2024
Buyer Freddy Bulmer never thought he would buy a New Zealand gewürztraminer but this one was too delicious to resist. Produced from organic fruit from a New Zealand winery committed to making wine as sustainably as possible, this is a smart, pure gewürztraminer. The nose has the hallmark floral aromatic quality of the variety, without being in any way OTT or going too much into Turkish Delight territory. This has elegant rose petal aromas, with a hint of fresh ginger and peachy stone fruit. The palate is focused and fresh with plenty of texture thanks to around 30% of the juice fermenting on skins for 2 weeks, drawing out delicate tannins and boosting the palate weight just enough without moving away from the crisp freshness that sets the wine apart. Peachy fruit leads on the palate, with Persian spices, lychee and honeysuckle.
