Zulal Areni Red Classic 2021

3.166666700 star rating 6 Reviews
Made by Aimee Keushguerian, who champions Armenia's indigenous varieties that are planted at some of the highest elevations in Europe, if not the world! From old, ungrafted vines planted on volcanic soils, this 100% areni red wine is unoaked and is fresh and light in colour with a great red-berry perfume. With black pepper notes and fine, ripe tannins this feels like a blend between syrah and pinot noir.

This is a welcome opportunity to try Areni Noir, thought to be one of the oldest grape varieties in the world. Sourced from high-altitude vineyards over 1,500 metres on volcanic soils, it’s an unoaked delight, showing impressive zip and freshness, racy plum, bramble and redcurrant fruit and textured, fine-grained tannins. Delicious.

Healthy dark garnet. Sweet and gentle. Great freshness and no oak intermediary between this pure high-elevation fruit and us! Really charming. Sweet red-cherry fruit but not for keeping. Long. GV.
