We are now in the fourth year of delivering our sustainability plan, and while the context for doing business remains challenging, progress continues. Over the past 12 months we have focused on practical actions that cut emissions and cost, strengthen our supply chain, and support producers and colleagues to adapt to long‑term change. This report sets out how that work is progressing – what’s working well, what’s harder, and what we’re doing next.
Here’s a snapshot of the year just gone:
- Reduced Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by a further 11% year on year – now over 60% below our 2021/22 baseline
- Generated more than half of the electricity used at our Stevenage site from on‑site solar, saving around £94,000 over the year
- Removed 21.9 tonnes of glass from our supply chain through continued bottle‑weight reduction, avoiding around 19 tonnes of CO₂
- Avoided an estimated 70 tonnes of CO₂ by selling more wine in lower‑carbon formats such as Bag‑in‑Box and recycled PET bottles
- Invested a further £64,000 directly into vineyards through our Climate & Nature Programme, supporting regenerative farming, biodiversity and climate resilience projects around the world
- Rolled out practical tools and training to help producers identify and address human rights risks, with a focus on seasonal and temporary workers
- Launched The Society’s Pioneers, a curated collection making it easier for members to find wines from producers going above and beyond in their care for land, people and craft
- Continued to receive strong external recognition for our approach, including Retailer of the Year at multiple sustainability‑focused wine industry awards
The full report shares the detail behind these headlines, alongside clear explanations of the trade‑offs involved and the areas where progress is slower than we’d like. What links all the strands of our programme is a belief that sustainability should be treated as good business sense – rooted in practical action, transparency and long‑term thinking.
