Few winemakers have shaped the modern identity of Spanish wine as profoundly as Álvaro Palacios. A restless perfectionist, visionary and tireless ambassador for Spain’s greatest vineyards, he has spent his career proving that old vines, indigenous varieties and a simple yet meticulous respect of place can produce wines of world-class distinction. This collection brings together four 2025 vintage wines from Álvaro Palacios’ estates in Priorat and Rioja all of which will be bottled early next year.
Order by midday on Friday 10th July
Born into the Palacios Remondo family in Rioja Oriental, Álvaro could easily have followed the traditional path, but his ambition took him elsewhere. In the late 1980s, he joined a small group of pioneers who saw extraordinary potential in the forgotten, mountainous landscape of Priorat. Together, they helped transform the region from an overlooked corner of Catalonia into one of Spain’s most prestigious regions. Today, Álvaro’s philosophy is based on a Burgundian appreciation of terroir: expressing the character of a single vineyard, village or landscape. His wines have evolved over time, becoming less about power, extraction and concentration and increasingly focused on freshness, elegance and aromatic intensity.
From the mineral tension and wild mountain character of Finca Dofí and Gratallops in Priorat, to the extraordinary finesse of Quiñón de Valmira and the new Quiñón de Valdelareina in Rioja Oriental, each of these garnacha-led wines are among the finest expressions of their regions, reflecting Álvaro’s unrivalled ability to translate landscape into bottle.
The vintage is an exciting one for Álvaro, a year that combined climatic challenges with the opportunity to showcase the true character of his vineyards. After several dry years, rainfall helped restore balance to the vines, although periods of intense summer heat required careful management to preserve freshness and elegance. The result is a set of wines that feel vibrant and refined, shaped by old vines, organic farming and Álvaro’s instinctive understanding of place. While powerful and structured, they avoid any sense of excess, instead offering freshness, perfume and mineral tension.
