Half bottle of L'Étoile Vin de Paille, Domaine de Montbourgeau 2022

Code: JU2532
White
This deliciously sweet Jura wine is made from 60% chardonnay and 20% each of savagnin and poulsard. A very labour intensive wine to produce and made in very small quantities, this is a rather rare wine that has so much concentration and energy. You need 130kg of grapes to produce only 20 litres of wine. The healthy grapes are harvested early and are dried on racks in an loft where the grapes dry out and concentrate their sugars and acidity prior to pressing and fermentation. The wine is aged in large barrels for three years and has produced a wine that is full of dried apricots, honey, quince and mango. There is an energy that runs through the wine to balance the 120 grams/litre of residual sugar. Drink this year to 2046. 14%

L’Étoile Vin Jaune, Domaine de Montbourgeau 2019 62cl

Code: JU2541
White
Made from 100% savagnin, the indigenous grape of the region, and aged under a film of flor (yeast layer) for seven years to create a very fine, refined and exceptionally long-flavoured Jura wine. Vin Jaune wines are the heritage wine of the region and something that is held very dear to this estate, producing wines with incredible complexity and concentration. Expect yeasty, toasty notes combined with salted nuts and salted caramel flavours along with dried apricot, ginger, curry spice, wild herbs and citrus peel. Drink this year to 2041. 15%

L'Étoile Cuvée Spéciale, Domaine de Montbourgeau 2020

Code: JU2521
White
From complex limestone soils, the wine spends four years under flor (yeast layer) prior to bottling. The wine is made exclusively from the best chardonnay plots from the Montbourgeau vineyards and produces a wine with great intensity and power, combined with the benchmark racy acidity, nuttiness and saltiness you expect from this magnificent region. Drink this year to 2033. 14%
£55.00 Case of 3 (£24.44/litre)

L'Étoile Ouillé, Domaine de Montbourgeau 2023

Code: JU2501
White
This is a wonderful introduction to the Jura region with the wine having spent two years under flor (sous voile) prior to bottling. A blend of different vineyards from several different soil types and 100% chardonnay, this wine has the classic nuttiness and saltiness that is synonymous with the jura. Dried lemon peel and citrus can be felt on the palate. Drink this year to 2035. 13.5%
£43.00 Case of 3 (£19.11/litre)

L'Étoile Savagnin, Domaine de Montbourgeau 2022

Code: JU2511
White
Savagnin is the indigenous variety of the Jura and is perfectly adapted to the practise of long ageing in barrel without topping up and with minimal intervention, known as 'sous-voile'. This savagnin spends 42 months under this yeast layer (similar to the sherry region) in 228-litre barrels, which gives the wine a yeasty, salty, brioche note. Planted on a complex terroir of grey marl and limestone this wine is wonderfully characterful with wild herbs, citrus and salted almond notes. The body is rich with some dried fruits and honey blossom combined with a yeasty finish and a vibrant acidity. Drink this year to 2036. 13.7%
